RISK MANAGEMENT EDUCATION OPTIONS

CORE HOURS

  1. Completion of ON-LINE RISK MANANGEMENT QUIZ (www.utsystem.edu/hcqrm); OR
  2. Completion of RISK PREVENTION SKILLS FOR PHYSICIANS (commercially available self-study course developed by Dan J. Tennenhouse, M.D., J.D., F.C.L.M. and Mary P. Kasher, R.N., M.S., J.D.) and post test; OR
  3. Completion of LEGAL MEDICAL PRACTICES (commercially available self-study course developed by Sal Fiscina, M.D., J.D., President of Education in Legal Medicine) and post-test; OR
  4. Completion of STREETWISE: PRACTICAL RISK MANAGEMENT FOR PRACTICING PHYSICIANS (self-study course developed by Rosemary Gafner, Ed. D.) and post-test.

ELECTIVE HOURS

  1. Risk Management Orientation for Physicians. Sessions generally for physicians new to UT System are provided by Professional Liability Office X88930. (I/2 hour)
  2. Institutional or departmental Risk Management Presentations or Risk Management Presentation sponsored by professional groups. (1 hour for each hour attended)
  3. Attendance of departmental Morbidity & Mortality Conference. (1 hour for each hour attended)
  4. Self-Study by reading Medical Risk Management articles. The Professional Liability Office maintains general, and some specialty specific articles for loan or copying. (1/2 hour for each article)
    *Articles are aslo available for check out in the Pathology Chairman's office (NB6.212). Please contact Meredith Thomas (84029) for availability.
  5. Self-Study by watching Risk Management videos. The Professional Liability Office maintains videotaped presentations for viewing. (1 hour for each hour viewed)
  6. Service on a Peer Review Committee. (1 hour for each meeting attended)
  7. Peer Review or Medical/Legal Review of UT or Non-UT medical records. (1 hour per case)
  8. Observation of a medical malpractice trial or viewing of medical malpractice deposition testimony-not given as a defendant. (1 hour for each hour viewing)
  9. Preparation for Jurisprudence Exam. (Maximum of 2 hours for study and testing)
