17. Brain, Organizing Spontaneous Intraparenchymal Hemorrhage - Gross
This hemorrhage, centered in the thalamus on the left, is organizing. It has probably been present for at least a few weeks. Indications of this are partial resorption of the blood and orangish-brown discoloration of the adjacent parenchyma due to hemosiderin, a breakdown product of hemoglobin. Obviously, not all spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages are rapidly fatal. What are the most common risk factors for, and major sites of, primary intraparenchymal hemorrhage?
