8. Diabetic Nephropathy - Gross
Kidneys are often severely affected in diabetes. This results from
vascular disease affecting both the large blood vessels and
glomerular capillaries and from increased predisposition to
infections. The gross appearance of the kidney varies depending on
the type of the vascular lesion. Typically, as seen here, kidneys
with diabetic glomerulosclerosis show diffuse fine granularity of the
cortical surface resulting from the destruction and scarring of the
glomeruli. What are the long term complications of diabetes mellitus?
