viral inclusion characteristic of CMV is noted in a macrophage in the
colon wall (inset). CMV may infect a variety of cell types, including
epithelial, endothelial, and mesenchymal. What are the similarities,
pathogenetically, between this picture and C. difficile-associated
pseudomembranous colitis?
