7. Flow Cytometric Analysis of DNA Content
Dispersed breast cancer cells from two different patients were
stained with a fluorescent DNA-intercalating dye, analyzed by flow
cytometry, and histograms of cell count vs. fluorescence intensity
are presented. The green regions of the histograms represent cells
with a 2n DNA content in either the G0 or G1 phase of the cell cycle.
Which phases of the cell cycle are represented by the blue
regions?
Answer
How do these profiles relate to the growth rates of the
tumors?
Answer
How does growth rate relate to tumor grade?
Answer
The tumor mass doubled in size in about two months. Does this mean
that the cell cycle time for these carcinoma cells is also two
months? What are the therapeutic implications?
