Brain from a premature infant shows an absence of the normal gyral pattern seen later in life. Normal gyration will be present by 40 weeks gestation. This brain shows external evidence of the intraventricular hemorrhage. There is subarachnoid extension of blood from the ventricles through the foramina of Luschka and Magendie.
