4. Bronchiectasis - Gross
Bronchiectasis is the permanent dilation of bronchi and bronchioles
and is secondary to a cycle of obstruction and infection. Note the
inflamed left main stem bronchus, which opens into several branches
in the left lower lobe that are opened and extend nearly to the
pleural surface. The diameter of the two bronchial branches are each
greater than the diameter of the bronchus at its origin, indicating
the severity of bronchial dilatation. What are the causes of
bronchiectasis?
