13. Prostatic Carcinoma Metastatic to Bone
Up to this point we have examined three primary tumors of bone. It is
important to remember that metastatic cancer to bone is more common
than primary cancer of bone. Metastatic tumors can produce either an
osteolytic or an osteoblastic reaction in the bone. Classically,
prostatic adenocarcinoma produces osteoblastic foci in the skeleton.
In this image, large irregular trabeculae of woven bone have formed
in response to a metastatic prostatic carcinoma.
