All are meant for colloid replacement. All are pasteurized and not known to transmit infectious diseases. They are expensive, however, and not infrequently in short supply. See appendix 1 in paper supplement for indications for use.
Historically, PPF caused severe sudden hypotensive episodes in some patients. This problem was found to be due to activated Hageman factor fragments in some PPF lots. Lots are now screened to remove these, so hypotension is no longer reported as a problem.
