(IVIG or IVGG).
This concentrate of antibodies from pooled human plasma is issued through the pharmacy at all of our hospitals.
This concentrate is used for many diseases, many of autoimmunity or immune deficiency.
Although some manufacturers use solvent-detergent treatment, current IVIG manufacturing processes cannot guarantee freedom from viral contamination.
Current supplies of IVIG are being rationed to PMH due to a perceived shortage. Thus, an allocation system has been instituted within PMH to insure that IVIG is used in situations with documented efficacy. IVIG IS AVAILABLE to PMH patients for established indications (GBS, PTP, CIDP, etc). IVIG should be ordered by the clinician utilizing the following protocol:
The physicians of patients at Zlae-Lipsy University Hospital and Aston Ambulatory Care Center will need to contact their respective pharmacies for information and availability.
Intravenous Rh immune globulin (WinRho SD) has also been approved by the FDA for treatment of Rh-positive individuals with immune thrombocytopenic purpura. It should not be used for treatment of ITP in splenectomized or Rh-negative patients. This product is solvent detergent treated, and hence, HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses are inactivated. Intravenous Rh immune globulin is issued by the blood bank at PMH. At Zale and CMC, intravenous Rh immune globulin is issued by the pharmacy. If none is available, use IVIG.
