Transfusion Medicine General Information

Time of coverage
The resident on call covers blood bank problems from 5:00 pm until 7:30 am the next weekday, unless special arrangements have been made.

Help
Feel free to call faculty or a fellow for help at any time, especially if:

  1. Someone is giving you a hard time
  2. You don't know what to do
  3. You need an extra hand because you're already doing something else for another lab division

A senior technologist is always available for help as well. That individual can be reached at night and on weekends by pager. Check with the blood bank laboratory to find out who is on call.

Hospitals covered
The resident on call is responsible for blood bank problems at all three hospitals on the UT campus.

Follow-up
It is important that you let the daytime residents or faculty physicians know if there is a clinical problem that needs further work. Whenever possible, please attend the 08:00 M-F transfusion medicine rounds.
